Short four play
Thu, 4 Dec 2008, 08:25 amEach of the four plays take place in a different area of the Blue Room, with the audience moving between each one, guided by a weird bunch.
‘The Benefit of Hindsight’ directed by Mark Storen. A young man (Ben Russell) who has dumped his girlfriend (Arielle Grey) is aided by the sudden appearance of hindsight. Damon Lockwood is the commentator, and he is helped by Kate Rice.
‘12:15 Saturday Night’ directed by Adam Mitchell. On a night out, Greg Pringle (Mike Djukic) meets a friend (Allan Girod) in a waiting room and gets some surprising news. Stunning appearances from Kath Burnett Watson and Andrea Gibbs.
‘Dreaming Right or Wrong’ directed by Emily McLean. Two couples, Glen Hall and Kim Walsh meet their friends Talei Howell-Price and Sean Walsh for a coffee. We have all woken having experienced a vivid dream, but women's dreams are not on the same level as men's.
‘I just laid a turd the size of Minneapolis’ directed by Jeremy Rice. A young man (Jimmy James Eaton) and his wife (Renee Newman-Storen) grapple with the fame having been thrust upon him. Also featured are Kerry O’Sullivan and the heavenly Sam Longley.
Cherie Hewson’s costume for Jimmy is reminiscent of Old Mother Reilly’s with faecal overtones!
The whole show ended with a rousing chorus from the whole cast.
We were asked to relax and revel in a serve of theatrical mayhem. This is certainly, what we got. Four very different plays as a taster plate. As always, Damon’s characters are fabulous, filled with interesting traits and his script full of zany humour. With a couple of the plays, I suspect that they were previews of a possibly longer version in the future.
With great courage, Talei came out of her safety zone to give a few belly laughs.
With such a magnificent cast, and lets face it this is the elite of WA’s comedians today, overseen by the cream of Perth’s directors, this show is essentially a very generous Christmas present to the team’s friends in Perth. If a fraction of this gifted group were to be employed at normal rates, the ticket price would be prohibitive. All of the costumes, design (Cherie Hewson) and lighting (Lucy Birkenshaw) had full attention, even when the acts were only about 15 -20 minutes each, no corners had been cut.
VERY many thanks for a great night out.
