Alice in Wonderland

It was late in the run when i was able to catch the Stirling Theatre's production of "Alice In Wonderland" at Morris Place Innaloo. I have enjoyed seeing some the recent productions there. This was the first time I was able to enjoy the new tiered seating installed by the Stirling committee. And what a 'comfy" way it was to enjoy a night at this venue. This was a good night's entertainment with many talented young people in the cast. As a male I was not brought up on the adventures of Alice so it was quite refreshing for me as an adult to be taken through the full story. The costumes in this production were very impressive indeed. Having three Alices share the role was a nice idea of the director Christine Ellis. In this play/musical some of the males were very competent actors I thought. This included Jono Hopkins as the white rabbit and Jacob Neal as the fish footman. Both showed great confidence and presence on stage. But the chesire cat took the cheeze from me that night! Lisa Hendereson had a lovely presence on stage and her costume just looked fabulous. It was also great to see John Nijam, with his boundless energy, continue his foray into comedy following his last success at the Old Mill Theatre. Other nice performances were given by Lois Allen and Liat Moss as Tweedledum and Tweedledee. The dance routines were good but the songs could have been presented with a bit more energy and drive I felt. The oyster and lobster characters looked colourful in their costumes too. This was a most enjoyable night at the Stirling Theatre. Well done to the director and all the cast for a show that charmed me. John Flood
