Deus Ex Quanta - a Posthumous Review
Thu, 17 July 2008, 10:49 amWhy is this review posthumous? Because Technophobe Dalby only JUST worked out how to sign up. The ITA website.....where reviewing is a baffling ordeal.
Anyhoo......those of you who didn't see this most excellent Blak Yak production reeeeeally missed out. To reiterate Sue's thorough bollocking of Perth's apathetic theatre crowd, where the bloody heck were ya??? This was Blak Yak at its finest. A terrific, smart and different play that was NOT a musical, NOT an Ayckborne or Neil Simon and NOT a tv adaptation. It made you think. It made you laugh and it made you wonder what the duce was going on. The twist at the end was a delight. It was really well directed by Nick Donlad (as is always the case for Nick)and the pace was cracking. The three actors did exceptionally well with the very challenging material. Kristen Berry and Alex Jones were great as the two very different detectives, from opposing religious backgrounds, trying to reconcile the bizarre situation they found themselves in. (It's an absolute joy to have The Jones back home. We've missed him and he was so natural in the role, you'd never know he'd taken a hiatus of several years off stage.) Scott Northover had you believing he was a bona fide quantum physics geek, such was his understanding and delivery of some very complicated theories. (these theories went well over the pin-head of this reviewer. I Don't Get the plotline of the Back to the Future or Terminator films, fergawdssake...)
Next time anyone is having a bit of a sulk about the lack of really excellent stuff out there, kick yourself for not supporting this show.
You have a chance to redeem yourselves however! Go and see Ghosts at Marloo, directed by Peter Clark. I'm looking forward to being shocked, challenged and confronted by this wonderful production. Isn't this why we love theatre after all?
