Everything you ever wanted to know about SILENCE
Thu, 1 May 2008, 08:17 am‘Everything you ever wanted to know about silence’ by Kelvin Jay Hourquebie is produced by Tahni Froudist for Art Duck. This premiere is showing at the Blue Room in Northbridge each evening, at the earlier time of 6.30, until the 17th May.
A Morticia-like girl (Angelique Jorre de St Jorre) whispers that she would like to tell us her story. It is about life in a remote village in the hills, where one suspects a bit of in-breeding has been taking place. When a young woman, Elizabeth (Meagan Taylor) is found lying in the street, the locals become worried and the powerful lady Mayor, Phillipa (Erin Hutchinson), is called for.
Elizabeth becomes friendly with the local butcher (Stacy Gougoulis) who explains their fears, but when the stranger then mentions the Aytons, the residents become petrified. The Ayton family have lived in the Norman Bates’ Psycho-style house on the hill for a decade, yet only the lights flashing and strange noises show that the manor is still inhabited.
Whilst walking around the hillside, the visitor meets an eccentric girl (Whitney Richards) from the big house and the creepy tale takes a new dimension.
Slickly directed by Sarah Fay, this spooky story keeps up the pace as the story moves back and forwards from the house on the hill and the village. Very well acted.
The mysterious lighting and set by Stephen Warren, aided by stage Manager Kat Shaw, was clever and effective. The sound track of sinister music and AV effects were well constructed by the writer KJ. and efficiently operated by Karly Pisano.
This very different play is a must for the fans of ABC’s ‘The League of Gentlemen’. An interesting story, professionally produced.
