Went and saw the Installation at PICA on Saturday afternoon, it is a free entry look at the video projection techniques used for Metadance performances. For Lighting, Video. Directors, Choreographers, go and have a look as it has got such potential for so many original shows. First impressions were looking at The Matrix in 3D. Look in the festival program for the Installation times. Jonathan Mustard is one of the tour leaders so it is a very informative tour. I would give Installation five stars for the ideas it gives you. I personally was disapointed overall with the three dances in the Metadance performance but they were well received by the audience as they are very creative. My main criticism is with the lighting, it was too dark and most spots were too tight, so the dancers were rarely lit enough for us to see them. The downstage area directly behind the main scrim material (you will have to do the tour to find out what it is!) is well lit without spilling onto the material but that was mainly used for the curtain call. The dancers were very good when I could see them. The projector needs a good service as its black is a grey so we can see movement as people set up. There are half price tickets to some of these shows so look out for them in the paper as some of the interaction between the dancers and the projection is very good.
