While I don't have time to write a full-detailed review, I did want to pass on my thoughts about Stirling Players' latest production, the comedy thriller Murder By the Book. The story follows the actions taken between a husband and wife who both have very different reasons for ultimately planning to kill one another. After some initial "warming up" between the actors, this turned into one of the quickest, wittiest and well-played productions I have seen this year. The script requires fluidity and flow between the characters, and every one of the actors certainly played up and into their roles, bouncing off eachother and creating a frenzy sure enough to keep the attention of every audience member. And that's saying something at a Sunday matinee - a particular show time-slot which can have the highest percentage of senior dozers... The build-up towards the shocking TWIST in the tale (well, the first major twist, at least) right at the curtain drop for interval, made for one of the longest 20-minute breaks in theatre. Talk about suspense. And the second act only became more "twistful"! Every single one of the actors plays their part to the tee, so there is no need to pinpoint any one's performance. Though I must say that Phil Fryer (who also directs the show) made me chuckle the most. His totally baffled publisher could have been more lost in the twists and re-twists than the audience! This show is playing its final weekend from Thursday night, so be sure you take your chance to see it. It really is thoroughly enjoyable. I believe the new bookings number is 9446 9120.
