Lysistrata’ loosely based on the Aristophanes' play, is produced by the Entertainment Factory (a private theatre school?) and is showing at the Rechabites Hall, Northbridge at 8.00 pm until Saturday 8th December. No programme or cast list so please forgive errors.

In the Athenian / Peloponnesian Wars, the women fed up with their men going off to battle and leaving their families behind, unite under Lysistrata (Nicola Cove) in withdrawing the supply of lovemaking. Or no piece without peace. The women became as frustrated as the men – especially Cleonice (Georgia Williams) one of the most aggravated sought various modes of relief.

Over the past decade this classic Greek play has been changed many times. A couple of years ago Stephen Lee developed a contemporary version. The anti Middle East war supporters brought out a read for peace version; now we have the Benny Hill does ‘Lysistrata’ version. The pantomime script, quite funny at times e.g. when being paid one Greek said 'Athenian Express - that will do nicely!' - is acted out by the young cast with energy and enthusiasm. Whilst being the most modest Lysistrata that I have seen, it is probably the most bawdy.
