Wonderlands (I don't do stars)
Wed, 20 June 2007, 05:01 pmI saw this professional production last evening. I generally agree with Gordon's comments of last week (I have started a new thread because that one seemed to get bogged down in irrelevancies).
A couple of queries though. After all the research this Australian playwright did, why did she use words like 'buzzard' and 'canyon' which I believe are distinctly American? Why is the 'Tessie' story left unresolved? What was Cathy really up to at the Bank? And after all the effort that went into light, sound and set design, why was not more attention paid to costumes? For instance - after a hard day on the land, the farmer was weaing a pair of sta-prest slacks; and the 1920s stockman was dressed like a contemporary rodeo cowboy. These details tended to grate on me, but I thought the subject matter was handled well.
