‘Run Kitty Run’ is a show for mid-teenagers, written by Tiffany Barton. The production, by Barking Gecko, is showing at the Subiaco Arts Centre. This show will no doubt be touring the schools and suburbs.

Claude Marcos has designed the stage as a catwalk, where Joni (Teresa Jakovich – showed all the emotions) and Po (Summer Williams) strut their stuff. They have reached the heights in the modelling business, know how to present and promote their bodies, but not how to protect themselves from the lecherous young men around them. Trash (Nicholas McRobbie) is such a youth, for him any partner of more than 10-minutes would be considered a long term relationship. He sets his sights on Joni, who has no maternal support or guidance. Robbie (Brendan Ewing) gives her advice, but will her hormones win or common sense prevail?

This play is a collection of subtle messages for young girls, with one big message for the boys, about relationships and self-respect. Normally preaching to youngsters doesn’t work, but may do with Steve Hearne’s trendy music, Claudia Alessi’s superb choreography, acrobatics and movement - The girls’ deportment was magnificent - and Jeremy Rice’s fun direction the action is comical and admirable.

The prize, however, must go to Cherie Hewson’s costumes. They had style, colour and loads of imagination. All types of materials were used, there were mechanical props, incredible shoes and many of the outfits were like transformers changing from an outrageous outfit to a stunning evening dress in front of your eyes.

Visually a stunning show.
