"Luv Struck" - an hilarious twist on Romeo & Juliet
Sat, 14 Apr 2007, 12:58 amTonight I went to Taylor's Art & Coffee House in the wonderful Swan Valley to see "Luv Struk", an hilarious comedy and twist to Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet"...
I don't normally write reviews, but - oh - you must go and see this show !! You will never think of Romeo & Juliet the same.
Adapted by award winning playwright Hellie Turner and with an outstanding cast including equity award winning Steve Turner and equity award nominee Luke Hewitt, along with Amanda Crewes, Quintin George, Leanne Page and Allan Girod.
When Robbo and Julie fall madly in love, the rift between the Contivich and Lamontague vineyards deepens ... but true love conquers all and after much ado, the champagne corks are popping!
"What amazing power there is in squashed grapes"
The evening shows start at 8pm, my friend and I booked in for a meal in the outdoor restaurant at 6pm and enjoyed a relaxed, welcoming, friendly, ambient and charming night out. The food - mouthwatering.... I totally recommend the plum and orange duck, my friend had atlantic salmon - and it was worth every $. Being in the Swan Valley you can't go past the wine - delicious. If you like dry white wine, I forget the name as I rarely drink wine - but ask for the 'yellow top' and I am sure the staff will get a giggle out of that....
The show is staged in 'the shed' - and it is amazing what kompany M and Taylor's have created out of a shed (I understand the kudos there goes to the 'crane' - hehe).
kompany M are a professional theatre group and tour their shows around the country. Previous shows include the highly successful "Roadtrain", "The Gun" and many more... I hope they take this show on tour sometime soon, as everyone needs to see this highly comical adaptation of this famous love story.
Taylor's Art & Coffee House is easy to get to... Get yourself on Roe Hwy or Reid Hwy heading for Midland - turn onto Great Northern Hwy heading into the heart of the Swan Valley. You only drive for approx 1 minute up the road - once you see Waldecks you take your first right and Taylor's is on the corner...
Most of you know that I am a publicist - and I am doing this review not as a publicist but as a patron of theatre who had a tremendous and memorable night out.
Tell them Melz sent you. :-)
