Everything must go is a winner!
Yes, I saw this show on the opening night, and have simply not got around to writing up my thoughts.
Directed and created by Anne Adlem it was a very witty, well put together reminiscence of the last 50 years of Playlovers Inc.
Every show was mentioned and many musicals had tributes sung.
The structure of the show allowed the cast to move easily from one song to another, and a highlight for me was Tyler Jones send up of "A modern major general" and the cast's original presentations of the chorus from this song.
The stage was packed with colour and life, featuring many of Terry's brillant costumes and some interesting props.
The audience certainly enjoyed the outstanding musical numbers which were performed from some of our brightest and talented young musical performers.
I am not sure whether this constitutes a "musical" as such, but certainly was an excellent review type show. Well done to everyone involved and congratulations to Playlovers on hitting the 50 year milestone!

Musical theater (or
Musical theater (or theatre) is a form of theatre combining music, songs, dance, and spoken dialogue. It is closely related to opera, frequently being distinguished by the use of popular music of various forms (and thus usually different instrumentation), the use of unaccompanied dialogue (though some musicals are entirely accompanied, such as Les Misérables, and some operas have spoken dialogue, such as Carmen), and the avoidance of many operatic conventions.
In this regard- then yes- it does constitute as a musical...
^Btw= the show was bloody brilliant, Tyler and Breeane Jones, were in my opinion, the highlights of the night..
Overall, a witty, entertaining show to watch, and was a good insight into the 50 years of playlovers.

The difference betwwen Musical Theatre and a Musical
I agree with you Julian that this was most definitely "musical theatre", however, a selection of musical theatre songs strung together with dialogue giving a reason for singing the next song does not make it a musical.
A musical has an ongoing plot and storyline. I think this show was a bit thin on a storyline, however it was an excellent show, with some brilliant performers and the blending of voices was wonderful.
A thoroughly enjoyable nights' performance, well done!

I would call this show a
I would call this show a revue more than anything. I found it very entertaining, though I did cringe a couple of times at the cheesy dialogue.
I thought the standard of talent in this group was very high. I loved Tyler Jones's take on "A Modern Major General", and the improvised rivalry between him and Breeahn Jones. They had a great selection of songs though I wonder if some of the better known ones could have been worked into the second half? My favourite was Montana Perrin. I would have loved to hear more from her but unfortunately she only had one solo toward the end of the show.
All in all, a very entertaining night! Great stuff.
