It justs seems to get better and better for WA Stage School. A Chorus Line was everything you would want from an evening of Musical Theatre. Wonderful Comic and Emotive Acting, Great renditions of classic songs and dynamic dancing by a talented task. The Show closed last Saturday at the Subiaco Arts Centre you missed the chance to see a young and talented cast do their staff so professionaly. I have now seen 3 shows from WA Stage School and each time they have lifted the Performance excellence of the shows they have produced. They continue to unearth wonderful talent. Keep up the great work WA Stage School and keep doing the great job by providing our young performers the rare and invaluable experience of Performing on the Professional Perth Stage. Can't wait till the next show

I saw the Saturday matinee

I saw the Saturday matinee and it was maybe OK overall but it had shortfalls. What made it OK overall was some very good performances from some of the cast. What lowered the overall performance was some poor performaces due to poor projection and not having the vocal range to do justice to some songs. Being a school and needing to showcase all of their performers, they need to do better miking for their singers. The four mikes across middle stage suited most of the show but did not work for the singers msl and msr and some of the singers that went down stage were lost in the backing track. Even one good quality condensor mike on a floor stand would have helped but it should be three across the front. The lighting provided good atmosphere but lacked the puch of a musical due to lack of sidelights and strong coloured backlights that do so much to lift the dancers movement and form. Some of the leads need to be taught to seek the light. I know that it is part of the show to stand back out of the solo spot untill told to step into the light, but after that you need to always be in the light to be seen. Good use of the stage but wrong choice of venue for a large production. Playhouse would be a better choice. You seem to have marketed into the musicals group booking clients so hopefully you can spend a little bit more on the technical side to show off your great wardrobe.
