Nature as explained by Theatre’ is written and directed by Damon Lockwood and is the latest show at the Blue Room in Northbridge. It is on 8 p.m. each evening for the next week.

The strains of ‘The Big Country’ theme music, sets the scene for this David Attenborourgh style documentary on the private lives of wild animals and birds. Although the script is full of well-researched facts which are skilfully presented to the audience by Damon, in the background we find the animals themselves discussing their true lives – especially their sex lives – and filling in the information that the biologists have not yet discovered.

The animals are played by a highly, well-respected cast, mainly consisting of ‘The BIG Hoo-Haa’ stand-up comedy team, so their wonderful script flows well. The timing is slick, the expressions and characterisation impeccable. The humour is very bawdy, although manages to avoid coarseness when the director intervened on a couple of occasions.

As you take your seat be careful not to sit on the world’s smallest mammal.

Once a year we may be lucky enough to get a comedy that makes us have a good belly laugh, here Michelle Nussey, Andrea Gibbs, Mark Storen, Mike Djukic and Tegan Mulvany brought the tears as well.

This is a must see show – if you can get a ticket!!
