Funny Money, the farcical comedy by the School of Arts has been performed in Riverina towns to very appreciative audiences. It only took a few minutes for Jean (Tracey Lonergan) and Henry Perkins (David Yates) to set the scene for an hilarious night of fun and laughter. When the stunned Henry arrives home late for his birthday dinner, he is carrying the wrong briefcase. He’s ready to emigrate to Barcelona with the £735,000 he accidentally picked up on the underground. The plot thickens as 2 policemen, Davenport (Tim Stait) and Slater (Jim Nicholls) and their good friends Betty and Vic Johnson (Dianna Lovett & Tony Trench) enter and re-enter the living room with prefect precision. The banter between characters was fast & furious and left the audience spellbound with the riotous goings on. The farcical expressions from Betty and Vic were superb as they were forced into the frantic game of cat and mouse. Taxi driver Kath (Alison Kohlhardt), with brilliant cockney accent, added even more hilarity to Ray Cooney’s play. He certainly is the master of farce. Even the brief appearance of the passer-by (Graham Vanz) added to the intrigue. The plot’s every twist which the audience anticipated was quickly upstaged by another. The clever switching of the briefcases created even more suspense and hilarity. The ending was a total surprise. All who have taken part in this presentation, including the production crew, deserve hearty congratulations. If you are up to a good dose of side splitting laughter, some wonderful acting, hilarious innuendo and superb entertainment, don’t miss Funny Money.
