Dinner
Mon, 19 June 2006, 11:16 amI saw the play "Dinner" at Playlovers on opening night and agree it was brilliant, in particular Sue Darge as Paige the hostess from hell! I know it's not fair to single out one person but really this character holds the play and she certainly did!
The author takes to relationships with a VERY sharp scalpel.
The rest of the cast backed her up superbly - by the way avoid the web-site that provided the waiter, a chilling performance from Michael O'Neill with barely a word!!

A stunning play
Unfortunately flying from Adelaide to Perth to see it is a bit beyond me.

Cunning stunt
You'll miss all the swear words in this play. I think there were about a dozen of the dreaded 'c' words in words in it and about a dozen 'f' words. Worth seeing at any rate (no nudity though)

I thought it was an
I thought it was an excellent production. Well done Dean for creating a wonderful world. Usually I find too much dialogue turns into a talking heads scenario but I found last night to be laugh after laugh after laugh.
My congrats to the casts as well for illuminating a whole set of wonderfully horrid dinner guests. Jobs well done!

West Australian review
Yep. It got a good review in the 'West Australian' last week by Geoff Gibbs. Hope they go well with it!

Excellent Dinner
Saw Dinner last night at Playlovers and was treated to an excellent nights theatre. I was realy impressed by "Page" with Sue's mannerisms and facial expressions a treat to watch. Excellent casting as we had a wide variety of characters presented to us who stayed within their comfort zones. Even the fast arguing saw the dialogue still clear and no slipups in delivery.
Declaration of interest - I give John advice on lighting design, but anyone seeing this production should be impressed with the natural lighting of the scene, with no light shining in the audiences eyes as is usually the norm with amateur lighting of "in the round" productions.
All aspects of this play are excellent, a fine example of what can be achieved in amateur theatre as it was of a professional standard.
All actors not only knew their lines, but knew their characters well and how they inetracted with the other Dinner guests. The playing in the round worked well as we were looking in on the action, even though you were always going to see someones back. David had the audience on three sides only which allowed for more front on blocking of the dramatic scenes.
Set, costumes, props, lighting and sound were all well done, a good team effort.
A good night out with the bonus of Playlovers supper night.
