The Cemetary Club (Marloo Theatre)
Sun, 7 May 2006, 11:49 pmWell, once again I made it to the last night of a community theatre production. This is getting to be a bad habit! I would of course prefer to attend and review openings, but one gets so many invitations...
This was my first visit to Marloo Road since I was there in about 1984 with ACME Theatre Co, doing comedy revue. It has changed a bit since then. I was very impressed with the changes, particularly the width of the stage and the excellent bar facilities.
The play was very entertaining. Everybody did reasonably well with their middle class American Jewish accents and the characters were quite convincing. The 'oldie but goldie' jokes were nicely delivered and the sentiments sank in. The set design and execution was excellent, however I felt the lighting design and choice of musical links fell a little short of the rest. Overall good though.
Congratulations to Darlington on its 50th anniversary - and as an 'old thespian', I look forward to partaking of the celebrations in due course.
