Diary of Frank Annie (Phoenix)
Thu, 13 Apr 2006, 12:44 amYes, I know it's over! When will people think to send me comps for opening night? Is it the colour of my skin??
Well anyway. This play is not a sendup of holocaust victims - the 'Frank' of the title is not a proper noun but an adjective. 'Annie' is both narrator and central character.
The story is not really important. It is really looking into the private conversations of - on the one hand a group of young contemporary women - and on the other, a group of young contemporary men. Inevitably, the two groups drift together with predictable (if not exactly joyous) consequences.
I found this play most engaging and fun. The acting was generally good (in one or two cases exceptional) and the light and set were simply okay. The sound, particularly the choice of music to set each scene, was excellent.
For what is still probably the newest metropolitan WA community theatre group, Phoenix seems to go from strength to strength with hardly a stumble. I look forward eagerly to their next offering.
