I went to see this show last Sunday and was blown away by the professionalism of the production. The sets and costumes were stunning. Sometimes the lighting ques seemed a bit hesitant but that in no way detrated from the show. I think the chorus need a special mention as well. They were all such a big part of it. As for the Main characters I will list them seperately.
Valjean - John Read
Apparently a newcomer to the stage! What a beautiful voice this man has. His acting skills were outstanding as well.
Javert - Peter Knol
Another brilliant voice, although I detected some sort of accent which sometimes made the words hard to understand. Great stage presence.
Thenardier - Mike Rogers
Well suited for this role. You could tell he enjoyed what he was doing, he really got the audience going with 'Master of the House'.
MME. Thenardier - Ailsa Williams
Ailsa plays this part with gusto. She has a beautiful voice and really gave credence to her role.
Fantene - Melissa Treby
Another great voice. This woman gave it her all any had me feeling sad for her.
Marius - Patrick Cole
A very strong performance from Patrick who is just 16 I believe. I cried along with the audience during the tragic scene with Eponine. His voice was a little weak during the first half but he really excelled during the second half. Patricks acting skills were superb. He brought tenderness and balance to the role.
Cossete - Amber Southall
Amber gave an extremely good performance. A nice stong voice and she worked well with the others in the cast.
Eponine - Lisa Williams
Lisa looked and sounded just like I imagined Eponine to be. A good strong voice which sometimes lost diction on the final words in some lines. But obviously a well trained voice. Played well against Marius. Her emotions in this play were quite believable.
Enjolras - Patrick Kilcoyne
Patrick played this part well, sometimes a little over the top. A strong voice which wavered on some of the higher notes. I loved his death scene on the barricade.
Feuilly - Mark Ingle
Mark was very believable in this role, he gave it his best and it showed. a great voice on the lower songs, I really enjoyed his voice in 'Drink with me'.
Gavroche - Caris Read
I didn't realise that Gavroche was played by a girl until I read the program! Well done Caris. Great voice and superb acting skills. I am sure we will see lots more of Caris in the future.
Little Cossette - Shoreina Pereora
Shoreina has obviously been professionally trained, her voice was perfect in this role. A real contender for 'Australian Idol' in the future.
Her acting was without fault as well.
That just about covers the cast list but I must say that the scene changes were smoothe and without hitches. Well done Back Stage Crew. And the band too were excellent. Well done guys.
All in all a world class performance. My conratulations go to Carole Dhu the director.
Yours
Alan

Re: Another Les Miz review

I had a teriffic time watching the production of Les Mis in Pinjarra this weekend past. The set and stage design were wonderful, as were the lighting effects and the musicians who played tirelessly throughout the whole performance.

I really think that the chorus was fantastic, doing extremely well as people in the Thernadier's pub, as clientele in the 'red light district' and in the factory near the start. I really enjoyed the piece 'One Day More', everyone brought such an energy to that climactic song.

The principal cast blew me away. They were amateurs? Almost all of them could have fooled me. Javert was incredibly authorative and had a real presence and incredibly strong voice. Jean Val Jean also gave a wonderful performance that really allowed us in the audience to recognise and identify what he was feeling.

Fantine sang beautifully and also acted incredibly. For a relatively short amount of stage time, she really made an impression on me. Eponine also sang very well. Her feelings for Marius were well expressed and I don't think there was a dry eye in the audience after 'A Little Fall of Rain'.

The Thernardiers were incredibly funny, they had a great sense of comic timing and seemed to deliver each line perfectly. They were grotesque and amusing! The girl who played young-Cosette was great, she has a bright future ahead of her. Gavroche was also enjoyable and very funny.

Thank you to everyone involved in the production, you really made my weekend!

Another Les Miz review

Well , I had a MARVOLOUS time watching this amazing and captivating production. I am in shock of Justins review, although everyone has their own opinion.

True the cast and leads were all so good but one lead he forgot to mention was older cosette. HOW ? can you not enjoy her performance ? thats my question to you Justin. She is stunning , was the innocent vanrable cosette she was meant to be with a voice wich shined. That girl hasnt had any training, isnt that jsut outragously AWESOME ? and 5 days before the show that young girl had a virus and everyone thought she wasnt going to make it. Amber Southall was BEAUTIFUL and I am in ore of her voice. Yes little cosette was amazing for her age and has a future ahead of her , but Amber deserves jsut as much credit as jean val jean as she hasnt been trained in voice at all only dance and acting. So thats my opinion . I thought Amber, jean val jean , little cosette and fantine carried the show voice wise and were all so pleasent to listen to.

I think with ALOT more encouragement by people Amber Southall will go very far and improve imensly as that was her first lead role ever . So if anyone has anything to say to waht I have please do. I am interested to hear peoples opinions.

If anyone knows Amber tell her I thought she was awesome .

Or maybe he was saying her voice is better suited for heavy metal...?

Re: Another Les Miz review

Yes the actress playing Cosette is a stunner as reflected by other reviews posted..

but my question to you "Shane".. are you "Meisha/Moisha" (haha) "Chris" and maybe even "Nikola" ?

Not trying to play Sherlock Holmes here but the IP address "westnet" has made its continuous reappearances... also the extensive use of the word "Awesome" and poor spelling....quite a coincidence ahh?

Perhaps I am wrong... or not?? ;)

Cheers mate!

Re: A lode of Oar

Les Mis is deifnitely suited for a rock opera. The could call it "Jean Valjean Superstar". And then Alan Boulbil will spin in his grave. If he were dead...

Re: tonights show 28.05.05

Well what a show we had, it was very special to me, especially when a number of theatre friends from Rockingham came to see us, and simply love all that we did, to all the cast again i say its an honour to be working with you all and we really hit a fine cord with this show.

The audiance did not leave they waited to thank us on a wounderful show and all asked me over and over again about comming back tomorrow night to see the last show

Boy i sure would love to do another 3 weekends so then all the people would be happy and able to see it a least 2/3 time ,but alas what can we do.

Once again I thank each and every one from the bottom of my heart for the loving friendship, and the warmth and dept of each actor acting,
We all have done each other proud and this show has brought the very best out in each of us

My love to each and everyone
