I had the pleasure of attending a performance by the Newcastle Dramatic Arts Club at the Civic Theatre Newcastle on Saturday 13/11/04.

I can not think where to begin. Having seen this musical performed in Sydney during it's season and also owning a copy of the dream cast performing at the 10th aniversary concert, I was not sure if the show would be upto the standard that I was used to. WELL!!! I was totally blown away as were most of the audiance by the professional and artistic production. I would say without risk of over exageration that even the dream cast would have been impressed!!!

I am hesitant to speak about individuals as I am more worried about the feelings of those I do not speak about, However my above coments were directed at the total cast.

I would like to say that Derek Dowding was magnificent as Jean Valjean. He brought tears to the eyes of many theatre goers that night during the death scene, What a voice! Well done I look forward to seeing you in another production.

Robert Vidler as Inspector Javert. You were Him from the opening scene you convinced me that I was looking at the original.

Thenadier and lady Thenadier, I think you both deserve accolades for your performance that was on the night flawless and extremely funny.

The only other two I wish to coment about are the two smallest members of the cast The young Cossette and Gavroche4 I believe played on the night by Callan Purcell. If he is not destined for very high things then there is no justice.

Thank you all for a wonderful night and I hope one day to get your autographs on my program from the night.

Re: Les Miserables

Craig,

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for the review you posted on Les Mis. I actually directed the show and played Mdme Thenardier as well. The cast involved worked their butts off for this show, and it showed in each and every persons performance.

thank you once again.
