Hi, I have been reading all the stuff about The King & I, I also saw the show and thought it was great on the Wednesday. Couldnt see any reason for kicking out the cast but hey - that's what happens when amateur's try to arrange theatre productions! Leave it to Theatre people.

Saw the opening night of Pageant last night at the Playhouse and WOW what a show! Having seen it last year I didn't believe it could be any better - how wrong I was!

The guys or should I say gals really gave it their all and talking to people afterwards I was surprised to learn that no reviews are to be given on this show. Apparently the newspapers are only interested in reviewing shows that have 'professional' actors in them. May I ask WHY???

The cast of Pageant - well many of them - have been in theatre for years and Anthony Harwood, a very experienced actor, has taken on the role of Producer for this show, surely a major risk, and
I wish him every success and hope he goes forth to produce many more if they are to be of this high standard.

Costumes are fantastic, although some of the swimsuits could do with glitzing up. The sets are basic but overall very effective and everything comes together really well.

Only 2 criticisms - the long wait for 2nd half to start and the fact that Bonnie-Louise's 'mom' is not highlighted. Last year this effect gave more impact to her speech, last night it fell a little flat. Perhaps her 'mom' was not there but someone could have been spotlighted!

All I can say is GO & SEE IT you certainly won't be sorry. At $35.00 it's good value for money.

In response to Sally, as Anthony's mum I was selected to be spotlighted in last years production as Bonnie-Louise's mom but not being in theatre, I found this a little embarrassing. This year, as Don said we had budget limitations and the 'spotlighting' was one of the first things to go!
Last night, Bonnie-Louise looked towards me and the lady in front of me waved back to her and got a great kick out of it, so perhaps the decision not to spot is actually a good one.
Thanks for your comments though Sally, it's great to get feedback.
Cheers,
Derrie
