Rather than flood the board with my (slightly lengthy) review, I'll give you a link.

And if you can't be bothered clicking, I'll just tell you this. It's really not worth missing. If you get any opportunity at all, see it, no matter what type of theatre you like, because it really does have something for everyone.

Re: Urinetown

I dont know what it is, but the name of this play does nothing for me :) Although I have been told all too often 'dont judge a book by its cover'. So I wont do that to this play.

Thanks for the review, might check it out.

Re: Urinetown

Well, considering it's closing tomorrow night, you don't really have a huge amount of time in which to do so, but I do understand what you mean. When I first came across it a year or so ago, I assumed it was just some juvenile piece of work put together by young male writers with nothing better to do. Then I had some friends of mine whose opinions I respect convince me to give it a try, so I did. And they were right.

The thing is that it was never meant to actually work. It has a history of surprising everyone with its popularity (Its MTC season has been all but sold out, and the only reason it closed on Broadway is because its theatre was being renovated), including its writers. So it's stuck with things like a very bad title (and throughout the show they make the most of that fact), and subject matter which is perhaps a little shaky, but in the end, it not only works, but runs away with you so that you don't even realise how absurd it all is (until Lockstock, the narrator, reminds you again ;-) )

Word is that MTC are in negotiations for a national tour sometime next week, since some of the commercial producers have shown interest (and with sales like this, I don't blame them), so keep your eyes open for it.

Re: Urinetown

Hi!

I found out from someone involed with this show, that the MTC may produce a second season of urinetown, with most of the original cast, sometime next year.
