Haven't had a chance to go to see the new version yet ....but Ron Banks in the West gave it a great write up...

Re: Sex, Drugs and Self Control: RECONCEIVED

Yes Craig it was an excellent show. About a couple of dozen of the best sketches from the three earlier show series.

The different acts were written by the individual members of the cast, some worked very well, a couple 'ticked over'. It was obvious that for some of the younger innocent members of the audience that the whole point - if that is the correct expression - of 'The Country Women's Fisting Association' was lost.

Some very funny parts. All the cast are well known for their quality comedy acting - execpt perhaps Heath Miller (last year's Romeo - Shakespeare in the Park) proved his comedy talent and timing.

The song's lyrics and music were amazingly clever.

One small problem, how long can the audiences take this type of humour? Ben Elton started with the 'Young Ones' (cf 'Across hellfire') and then moved on to 'Black Adder' in its several periods in time and with a different slant to each historic guise. Perhaps Luke Milton should be looking at a slightly new outlook or approach. No complaint whatsoever, he is brilliant, only concern that audience interest may flag.

Great show, but accoustics in Rechabites as poor as ever.

Re: Sex, Drugs and Self Control: RECONCEIVED

Thanks Gordon,
I think it's important to clarify though that my work really is only a small portion of this show. I was lucky to be invited to take part (Claire Hooper has in fact been the driving force in getting this style of show up and running) and I am only one of a series of contributors including the very funny work of Damon Lockwood (Country Women's Fisting Association, Mighty Thor, Starsigns, etc) Claire Hooper (I Love You Mary Jane, Smugglers etc) Kerry O' Sullivan (Wind in the Willows, Picnic Auction), Andrea Gibbs (The Toy shelf). Plus this is of course a remount of our earlier show, and in many ways an attempt to vastly improve upon our attempt at sketch comedy from the previous year. It's a fun release for all of us and quite separate to our regular, individual projects.
Besides, from now on I'm going to exclusively write drawing room comedies.
Regards,
Luke.

Re: Sex, Drugs and Self Control: RECONCEIVED

I don't know of anyone who has seen these shows more than me (other than the cast and crew of course). I say this not to appear impressive- in fact I think it helps confirm my geek status- but to emphasise what a rollicking good show it is. I STILL laugh the WHOLE way through the show.

The sketches are the best ones taken from the earlier series and are all solidly written and performed by the whole cast. It's a very worthy replacement for dodgy work Christmas parties this week! Go and see it for yourselves, have a giggle and support local funny stuff on stage.

Sex, Drugs and Self Control: RECONCEIVED
Rechabites Hall Wed-Sat this week, 8pm.
