LOOT_by_Joe_Orton
Mon, 8 Sept 2003, 02:24 pmIn my Autumnal years, it is rare I venture out to the theatre but I had to have a look at the revival of Joe Orton's 'Loot'. This was described as being a play about the death of a one Mrs. Mary McLeavy, a bank robbery, the defiling of a local undertaker and an artificial eye. Too much to pass over.
What I discovered, in the tiny space the Cat and Fiddle is, was a piece that had no respect for the law, a disregard for age or sex and a sinister look at the nursing profession. I encourage anyone who has a dislike for political correctness to go and see this production.
If on the other hand, you are like me, you will veiw the proceedings under a thinly veiled smile and go home after to your fetish magazines and collection of matchbox cars.
Cat and Fiddle Hotel, 456 Darling Street, Balmain
4-27 September.
