Putting it Together
Fri, 5 Sept 2003, 10:11 amWell!!!!! Where to start with this one? I guess firstly by saying that the whole show is SUBLIME!!!!!! I have to admit to being an A Grade Moron when it comes to Musicals (hey, what do I know from musical theeyata????). Give me Sondheim however, and I'm in HEAVEN!!!!! The man can have you laughing your arse off one second, and the next thing you know, heÂ’s reached into your chest and ripped your heart out from the root!! If one can sing Sondheim, surely one can sing ANYthing. The complexity of his music and his tongue twister lyrics always make the jaw drop and the chest ache.
Needless to say, my jaw was on the floor and my chest was ready to explode with emotion by the end of last nightÂ’s performance. Chris Kabay has assembled a cast of stars for this production. Five brilliant performers (and a rather wonderful pianist) gave us one of the best revues IÂ’ve seen. If anyone missed a note or a line, I didnÂ’t pick it. The pace was great and these people can ACT! All emoted beautifully during their numbers, whether they were breaking our hearts, or causing us to nay and guffaw loudly. What a team! Their ensemble work was literally faultless. Their harmonies spot on!
Whilst the whole cast were brilliant, special mention of one person must be made. Ms Sonni Byrne. I’ve not missed a show of hers, why would you?? But last night………..wow. I didn’t think her voice could get any better. It has. Her stage presence is electrifying. Her knack for comedy, awe inspiring. She had us PISSing ourselves laughing. She performed “Not Getting Married Today” AND DID NOT MISS A BEAT OR WORD!!!!!! WHAT the…? Exceptional work, SL! Couldn’t be prouder!! A consummate professional.
A HUGE thank you and congratulations to cast and crew. I savoured and delighted in every facet of this show. If I could see it both tonight and tomorrow I would. Good luck for the remaining performances.
Punters, prepare to be aMAZed! Go see this show!!! You must see this show!
