I went to see Westside Story last Saturday night expecting to be hit in the eye with the full force and vigour that is the show, but all I got was a whimper at my feet. The two leads had good stage presence and voices, and a couple of the chorus were good. The simple set let them down as you could hear every step on the metal, and in the gym dance scene two characters came down the steps and drowned out what was being said on centre stage. And last but not least was the accompaniment very poor this show needs a lot more than was given,
in most songs it appeared that only the piano was used. Not up to the usual standard that Promp Corner serve up.I for one came away very dissapointed.
