The Brookman Street Theatre, Home of the Goldfields Repertory Club in Kalgoorlie were spoilt to host Melville Theatre Co over the weekend for two shows whilst they toured their fantastic show "On Top Of The World" to our region.

WHAT A SHOW!!!

I saw their last show at our club last night - and I have to say what a treat it was for our club and patrons!! With only two weeks to promote the show we had a great turn out and everyone enjoyed the show immensely!!
The other review I saw on this website covers it all - and what marvelous performances!
Congratulations to Director - Geoffrey Leeder, Cast - Sherryl Spencer, Stuart Riches, Jarrod Buttery and Patricia Golding and crew Barbara Lovell, Sean and Michael.

The show was superb, the characters marvelous, and yes we all wanted to knock the character Stephanie about too, hehe - i did have to wonder though if we were in for another twist when Baby cut the cake with sharp emotion. To be laughing hysterically one moment and then suddenly pulled back into attention with another angle, kept us all riveted and absorbed throughout the show.

The weekend consisted of a friday and saturday night performance, a directors workshop for our club on saturday afternoon which was great and a cast party after the show last night. Our Club President - Lorna Mitchell presented Geoffrey with the traditional directors spoon and we all partied till the wee hours.

For us thespians in the Goldfields we miss out on the usual interaction and mingling between Perth clubs and to my knowledge our closest community theatre to Kalgoorlie is Esperance = approx. 3 hours away - or even Merredin about the same distance. So it was absolutely wonderful to see some fresh faces and incredible talent on our stage!! And we didn't have to drive 6 hours to get to the theatre - hehe!

Thank you so much Melville for wanting to come out to Kalgoorlie and putting up with the 9 hour train trip - and when that new Prospector Train starts servicing it will cut 3 hours off that trip (something to ponder about for future tours - hehe!)

Whilst I write this they are all taking in the sights of our city. There is always lots to do and see out here. (Including a Brothel Tour yesterday - hehe) My only wish was that it was warmer weather for you all!!

It was great to catch up with you all again - and quite a reunion for a lot of people = and hope it won't be too far in the future that we all meet up again!! We hope one day we can make the journey to Melville and tour one of our shows to your club!!

Finally I have to add Thankyou - Lisa van Oyen - our PR and Publicity Officer - without you - this would not have been possible. You have litten another fine spark in our club - lol - :-)

All the best Melville with future productions and look forward to catching up again one day soon - possibly at DramaFest.

Warmest regards and wishes

Melanie DeCull

P.S. - Sean - "I Dream Australia" - hehe - 15 years - State Youth Theatre Co. - wow! what a flashback!
