At last! A play about us!
I saw this one at its opening at Nexus Theatre ltonight. Written, co-directed by and starring local lad David Moody, this play is set in a shared house in Fremantle, inhabited by a group of theatre practitioners, all following their individual paths in the pursuit of their art and all torn by the pressure to move away from WA to achieve real success. (Yes, I know not all TPs are uni grads - that is dealt with too).
In between scenes, we are treated to historical monologues which serve to remind us where we are, how we got here and what an interesting place it really is.
This is an authentic play with a powerful message - that in theatre as in other pursuits, it's the quality of what you do, not where you do it or how much they pay you that really counts. At the same time, this is a very funny, sexy, entertaining piece of theatre. I particularly liked the set design that allows you to see the actors waiting off/onstage between their entrances.
This is a must-see for all aspiring professional theatre people. It's only on until Sat 5th. Book on 9360 2504.
