Passing Out Parade
Mon, 25 Nov 2002, 10:31 pmI went to see this production this week at the Acorn Theatre and have to say I was very impressed. The cast were fantastic in all aspects. The accents were very good (in saying that I'm not sure how many if any of the cast were English) and the performances were very believable. The play gives us an insight into the resentment felt between different social classes in England during the second world war and how moving towards a common goal can help people get over their prejudices.
Although it is hard to single out any one performance I was very impressed with Katrina Bonds who played Private Lil. From the outset Lil was very professional and intent on getting her training over with. There was very little mention of her personal life other then some references to, "Her Johnnie", of the shiny shoes. At then end of the play we find that she has suffered some tragedy in her life which was portrayed brilliantly (it is very difficult to bring tears to my eyes but she did it!!) She played a very complex part brilliantly.
Again, I must stress that all aspects of this play were excellent. From direction to stage management I could not find a fault. If it is still possible to get tickets I would advise anyone who likes good theatre to go along!!
