I saw Oliver! at the new Stirling Theatre a few weeks ago.
The theatre, I feel, is their biggest draw-back. It has that "community hall" feeling which you can't really escape. However, the lead - Oliver played by Sam Perry was an absolute delight! He has a strong and very tuneful voice, an animated face and a charm I feel he probably got from his father who just happened to be playing Fagin. Fagin's role is always a scene stealer and Lee Perry's interpretation was no exception to the rule. He has an excellent voice and I was delighted to see him in a character role - his usual fare has been that of the 'dashing leading man' in the past. His delivery of "I think I'd better think it out again" was inspired and very thoughful - well done to the Perry boys!
