Prayer to an Iron God
Mon, 17 Sept 2001, 05:38 pmWell, despite the fact that all my original music was cut from this show and replaced with Mark Storen's (which I completely agree is far more suitable - especially as I have recycled my music into a show of my own! hehe), this show is definitely worth checking out. As few people know, I was part of the original creative team of this play, who slowly became obselete throughout the course of its workshops, so it was with relative scepticism and intrigue that I attended opening night last Friday.
I was quite surprised to find that the play has been completely transformed (yes, quite literally) into an extremely tight, and well crafted piece of theatre. Despite the major overhaul, and cutting of the principal character from the workshops, the new beast, if I may call it that, is so much sharper and focussed, and is really very good. The script proves its point about the tragic aftermath of youth suicide, even with some extremely funny (yet crude - YAY!) comments and anecdotes from Skunk and Sniff. The direction and acting were more than excellent, despite some of the dialogue being lost thanks to a more than slightly intoxicated woman sitting in front of me. Grrrr........!!!!
So - congratulations Caroline and Mark on such a wonderful job, and to Dawn, Sean, Ben and Oliver - bravo. :-) Hopefully this play will enter the Australian repertoire soon.

RE: Prayer to an Iron God
Sat, 22 Sept 2001, 09:09 pmI saw it the other night and really really enjoyed it. It is one of the best pieces of theatre WA has seen for quite some time. The characters were well crafted and the plot tight and interesting. Apart from some occasionally bad blocking (very rare), it was excellent.
Perth theatre seems to be on a high at the moment... (wait till my next show for the all new plummet to a low :))
