I saw it on Friday night 27/07/01. It was a full house. Being a large cast ensemble piece, there may have been a few friends and families of the cast in the audience which would have accounted for that as well as the standing ovation at the end.

I thought the set design was fantastic in its simplicity, being basically a wall of nappies with concealed doorways and windows. I wasn't sure how to take the death-masks ...possibly the 'Big Brother' influence?

It was a strong script and there were numerous delightful individual performances, but with a production of this kind, one is loathe to pick anyone out for special praise. Suffice it to say, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of most if not all. I hope they do take it on tour, or at least have a return season.

Victoria Hall is a notoriously difficult space for light and sound design but that all seemed to work reasonably well. What she lacks in technical facility however, the 'Old Lady of Fremantle' more than makes up for in architectural grandeur.
