Own Worst Enemy
Mon, 16 July 2001, 09:44 amNot long after sitting down, it was over and we were gone. Less that 1 hour in length, though excellent in content, I was surprised that it was not advertised as a long one act. The cast did not falter and I was mesmerised by the playful banter, my husband though, was ready to recieve a kick of the football, ready to launch himself for the mark of the year, if needed. I thought the fact that the show was advertised for families and with kids in mind, it probably went over the heads of the littlies as the story line zoomed around, going from character to character.
Well done to all involved, we were there on Friday 13th, and the audience numbers were low, but I enjoyed it.

All Barking Gecko shows are in fact long one acts, with Own Worst enemy being one of our longer ones. This being due to the inschool touring that we do. Incidentally Own Worst enemy has sold out it's school tour (four months), a north west tour and saouth west tour.
Some parts of it does go over littlies heads but it is actuially aime at high school students primarily, though happily many primary school aged children are coming during the holidays and enjoying the show.
We are very proud of this show and I excpect many people on this site don't attend much in the way of Barking Gecko theatre which is a shame, although we are a childrens theatre company primarily, our shows are very adult-friendly!
We are also the number one employer of Weste Australian theatre artists (actors, writers and designers) and as a company something for all of us in the theatre world to be proud of. In the next week our Artistic director Grahame Gavin is flying to Mexico to direct Frog Opera in Spanish. Not bad for a little theatre company fromn the West.
Escuse my propoagande I was just delighted to see a review of our show on this site.
