RE: Amadeus
It was my privilege to attend last night's opening of Blak Yak's production of Amadeus. This production was one of the best I have seen for a long time. It had a grace and style, the costumes, lighting, sound effects and staging were each complimentary to the other. Louise Carson's directorial touches created an amazing piece of theatre. She wisely deleted some of the "extras" in the script thus trimming the cast numbers, but in doing so none of the impact of the text was lost.
The strong cast is led by Eliot McCann as Salieri and Shenandoah Bruce as Mozart. Eliot's performance is a "tour de force" and Shenandoah's work is the best I have seen him do.
Congratulations to all involved with this production, I loved it.
I strongly urge those who have not yet booked tickets to do so quickly. Once word gets out this will be a sell out. Don't miss it!

RE: Amadeus
Don't usually post anything on shows I know a lot of people in but I can just see that as usual, a very high quality BlakYak show is not going to get an audience. Make a night of it in Kalamunda, have a meal and a couple of beers and go see Amedaus.
It really is great. The acting of the two leads and Mrs Mozart was flawless. Roger "oh good, my suporting cast have arrived" Trewick was absoluely delightful. It's a brilliant text and it's done very very well.
If nothing else, see it for the frocks (my God, what frocks!!) and Mr ITA President fancy-shmancy big shot in tights. Yes, tights. Oh and he likes it if you point and laugh.
Do yourself a favour.

RE: Amadeus
Yes, DEFINITELY do yourself a favour! This is a superb production. Congratulations to Louise for assembling and so capably directing such a fine cast, particularly Eliot McCann as Salieri and Shenandoah Bruce as Mozart ... the power and passion of their performances left me speechless (well, okay, as speechless as I could ever be!). Bravo to you both.
The rest of the cast were also fab (including those who uttered not a word!). In particular, Roger Trewick as the Chamberlain only had to move a millimetre to have me giggling, Julia Dalby made a nasty, supercilious count I began to hate (I think that was the point!), and Tracey Small and Nick Donald were perfect as the gossipy Venticelli. And thank you, Emma Farrell (Constanze), for ruining my eye makeup ... you and Mozart brought me to tears!
I loved the simple but effective set and the elegant costumes. The scene changes themselves were a work of art, elegant and unobtrusive.
Amadeus is only playing for ONE MORE WEEK. Alas, I won't have the time to go see it again, much as I would like to. But I can sum this review up in five words (I wish she would, I hear you say!) .....

RE: AMADEUS IS A MUST SEE!!!!
It's taken me a few days to recover from seeing the show (cried like a baby). I'm far to bias to review the show so I'll just reiterate what Leah said. This IS an incredible show and it is well worth the twenty minute trek from Perth to see it. The Kalamunda theatre is a GREAT venue and it has gone to waste now for many years, partly due to a lack of promotion from the council and partly because audience think it's too far away. Please help us put it to good use and see one of the best independant shows you'lll see this year.

RE: AMADEUS IS A MUST SEE!!!!
I have just returned home after attending the Blak Yak production of Amadeus at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre. I interviewed several audience members after the show for my theatre radio programme, and the word stunning was the adjective used by nearly all of them. The director Louise Carson played her cast along magnificently, the technical side and the scene changes, and the powerful dramatic build ups were a credit to her. All the cast were magnificent, but Eliot McCann (Salieri), Shenandoah Bruce (Mozart) and Emma Farrell (Constanze) were outstanding and received a standing ovation at the end. This is the best production I have seen for a long time, and you are mad if you miss it. Come on, you guys, Kalamunda is not that far away and there are some lovely eateries up here. Support community theatre, especially when it is of such a stunning standard.

RE: Amadeus
Great show. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Eliot McCann was excellent as Salieri as was Shenandoah Bruce as Mozart. Monologues were well paced out and some of the tableux work was fine, although there was some masking going on in some scenes, but apparently that was an error on the night. Roger Trewick and Sean Haining were superb in their minor roles. I've worked with both of these actors and it was great to see Roger again after all these years (still scene stealing I see!) The one scene I enjoyed the most was when Mozart was trumping Salieri on Salieri's march. I liked it in the film, and it was great in the play.
A well done effort all round, especially as this was Louise Carson's second play.

Amadeus, Elliot, Shenandoah an the world of acting
At the risk of causing an Amadeus over load on this site, I must add my comments. The reason for so many posts is that it is a truly amazing show. Even at interval i knew i was watching something special.
Eliot McCann, I havent slept all night in wonder and awe of your performance. Your presence and passion are unremarkable, I am speechless yet i want to say so much.
Shenandoah W Bruce you shone through out the whole production, but showed us the real complexity of your talent in the second act.
The play called for two such strong and capable actors and these gentlemen certainly rose to the occasion.
The whole production was nothing short of professional, Louises clear directorial vision was superbly echoed in the actors, the simple but so effective set and the emotive use of sound.
Many so called 'professional' productions and actors would hang their head in shame at this performance. I myself came out with the comment 'thats really acting'.
So i join the voice (which is getting louder!) , go see this show, even just to marvel at the wonder who is Elliot.

yes - El is a godamn bloody legend - but you spelt his name wrong - ELIOT. sorry - had to say that before he did.

ps: this i am saying honestly(not that i havent been honest):
Amadeus is my "theatrical debut"(and i know it is Allam's as well) and i have to say that i could not have chosen a better cast, crew, or director to work with for my very first real theatre performance. the fact that Amadeus is going so well, and that people think so highly of it is just so overwelming - it just makes me go 'wow'. even though i only have two non speaking parts, and not anything major, it still leaves me feeling very special to know that people think this show is amazing. the rest of the cast is SO talented and everyone is just so damn..(trying to find a word) MAGNIFICANT. auditioning for this show was the right thing to do!
it's the best, most amazing kind of wow.
love u all,
Amanda

RE: AMADEUS IS A MUST SEE!!!!
I must say I agree with Terry (I was there last night) and everyone else who has gone to see the Amadeus. The play in general, and in particular, Eliot McCann (Salieri), Shenandoah Bruce (Mozart) and Emma Farrell (Constanze) are outstanding. It must take Shenandoah all night to come back down to earth after all that energy displayed on stage!! I don't think I could add anything more that hasn't already been said.
My only criticism would be the lighting. While it was visually very effective and I greatly enjoyed it, on several occasions actors moved into darkness as they were speaking and it took several (long) seconds before they were lit. Maybe this was intentional, and if so, forgive me.
Otherwise, well done everyone.
One final comment, well done Jarrod and the other 'servants'. You all did your job superbly.
Ciao

Okay okay; I know I'm bias, since Blak Yak is my home theatre group, but I couldn't let this show pass without adding my two cents worth either.
One word: 'Wow'
See it, if just so you can say you've seen it.
Angela.

Rob, your criticism is well received. In mitigation - we are currently playing host to a young lady (Sarah) on work experience - who, really, is doing a most excellent job. As is Alan Green, our lighting technician/overseer.

I hate you all.
No, really. I am so incredibly jealous that I just can't express it in enough detail... I am also incredibly releived that my show is a comedy (albeit a "black" one) so I can pretend that it's silly to compare my little effort to that of people such as Eliot and Shenandoah as they are different types of production godihateyouallyoutalentedbastards!
Oh yeah... you should probably see the show tonight... but beware, it'll make you feel small and untalented and insecure.

RE: Amadeus
I have written and then deleted countless paragraphs before this final entry, due mostly to the fact that it has all been said already in the messages below (above?).
I do not wish to boost the deserving egos of the talented cast any further, but I guess I have to - well done. Inspiring stuff to a 4.5 show veteren (still rehearsing the 5th). I was transfixed throughout, and surprisingly (for me) I hung on to every word and facial expression, and there were plenty of both.
Congratulations Louise - certainly a foray and not a swan-song. Where do I sign up? Bravo. Where to now?
Tell me, did Eliot hit his head on the floor of Friday or does he command a stunt double?
Well, there it is! (on ya Allam).

RE: Amadeus- Salieri's stunt double
Jon Lloyd etched with due concern:
--------------------------------------------
*Tell me, did Eliot hit his head on the floor of Friday or does he command a stunt double?
To answer this question, the two responses are "no" and "no". I couldn't afford a stunt double, but I am thinking of doing an Alice Cooper tribute show as people were quite convinced I knocked myself unconscious.
I will be also tracing the Queen Mum's hip surgeon- I ache in some rather odd places.

Roles...
Amanda,
Thankyou for your kind words about the cast and crew and indeed our wonderful director (brownie points!).
However I must correct you.....your parts were major! As they say there are no small roles in theatre......Salieri had to have someone feed him in his old age and if you weren't around who was Mozart going to sleep with while I was off having babies!
You and the rest of the Amadeus cast and crew should be congratulated on your dedication throughout the entire season and rehearsal period.
Take Care my little Amadeus 'sly whore!'
Constanze Webber.
P.S. Just to let you all know that although Amanda's roles were non-speaking, she certainly made up for it backstage!
