The Old Mill Theatre's latest production is 'I'll be back before midnight'. It is a comedy thriller set in a farm house in the country side.

Jan - Linda Gefken - has just been released from a mental hospital, and has been taken to a tatty farm house cottage to recovery by her husband Greg - Gary Halliday. Gary's obnoxious sister, Laura - Allison Browning - is invited along to help Jan about the house. Jan is not happy about the situation and finds comfort in the company of the loopy next door farmer - Kim Taylor (who will leave soon for East Timor and will be replaced by David Readett).

The story develops very well, with plenty of twists and surprises. One is constantly reassessing the situation, but this creepy tale will keep you wondering up until the end.

It was the first night, so lighting cues were 'apprehensive', and the flow of the play slightly slow, but all credit must be given to Les Hart's direction and the excellent performances by the cast. The sound and music were well above average, and the scenery up to the superb standard that Old Mill seems to produce. One minor point, when the lounge curtains were open a LARGE fan was standing outside the window - easily visable from the centre of the theatre, why?

There is a programme warning about bangs, if your require heart tablets take them, because if the story doesn't put the fear of death into you, then the explosion early in the play will.

Well worth seeing.

RE: I'll be back before midnight

Thanks Gordon, word of mouth beats any advertising!
Good seats still available for all nights except Saturday March 31 which is sold out.
Thursdays (March 29 & April 5) are still a bit light on for bookings - does everyone go and do their shopping instead of coming to the theatre?

RE: I'll be back before midnight

Gordon,

Very simple explanation for the fan outside the window. It was there to blow the curtains in the "stormy" moments. However, as opening night would have things, there was a slight technical hitch getting it back up into the roof out of sight!!

Thanks for your comments.

regards,

Les

Great not to have to write all the reviews for our newsletter - or twist someone's arm to write one.
