Giverny at Hayman Upstairs
Mon, 4 Sept 2000, 02:05 pmThis is the most impressive play I have seen at Hayman Theatre. I will probably offend people saying this but I don't mind. I urge everyone who reads this web page to come along to the Hayman Theatre on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday at midday or next Sunday at 8pm to have a look.
Santana Sandow's script is warm, funny and genuine. To me this is what good theatre should be. And I don't mean the style, because it is simple, and I know for a lot of people something experimental is more their cup of tea. But this play works and works well.
The performances in the ensemble cast are generous and very natural. Very relaxed. Michelle Nussey, as Rochelle, handles the lead role well and the supporting cast just build and complement each other perfectly.
This is only a short review but I have written a more Hayman specific one at:

should anyone be interested.
Cheers,
Simon Keen

I agree whole heartedly with Simon. I've seen Giverny twice and both times it has been fantastic. Now I'm no art fan, but if this show doesn't inspire you to go to the art gallery then nothing will! Like Simon said, the play is simple but very effective and weel executed, and the actors work well together on stage. If you've never seen a play at the Hayman theatre upstairs, make sure you catch this one. For just six bucks this Sunday you will see Giverny and "Cowgirl Beat" which is a bargain in anyone's book!
