Oscar Wilde's SALOME

1. Yes, I am the President of Blak Yak Theatre, so I am liable to be biased.
2. No, the show hasn't opened yet (Wed May 10) so I'm talking about the Dress Rehearsal that I saw last night.
I'm sorry, but I didn't particularly like this play when I read it, and I must admit I'm not a huge fan of period dramas. However, I had confidence in the abilities and intentions of director David Ryding, and was impressed by his enthusiasm for the project. I have had no involvement with the production, other than administrative, and last night was the first rehearsal I had attended.
Take this as you will, but I was captivated. I was swept up in the production which uses music, set and lighting effects to draw the audience into a challenging script. The plot is old and well-known, but the performers and the design grabbed my attention from the stylish opening and held it throughout. With one more Dress Rehearsal (tonight) the cast and crew are ready to blow audiences away. It is a short play and consequently a short production (audiences will be out well before 10 PM) but I never felt the time dragging nor looked at my watch.
The young cast made me proud, Salome was gorgeous, and the Dance of the Seven Veils never looked so good. I enjoyed it so much that I am going to go again tonight. If you are at all interested in something different and stylish, and are looking for a show that won't keep you at the theatre all night, please take a chance and do not miss Oscar Wilde's SALOME - one of the most effective shows Blak Yak has staged.

Thanks Jarrod for your kind remarks from a week ago. After an encouraging opening week with crowds growing each night we are all looking forward to a great week this week ( and maybe another posted review here?)
