Dear Fellow Amateurs,The Oxford Universal Dictionary defines the word "Amateur" From the French
and Latin (amatorem) as being One who loves, is fond of or who has a taste
for.The meaning of the word "Amateur" stems from one's love of Theatre. To feel
amorous about ; to be enamored with, to be in love with.None of these words are associated with inferior, or of substandard quality.
As amateurs, we are involved in Theatre because of our love for Theatre.Because one chooses to make a living in another sphere; and enjoy Theatre
as a hobby or pastime does not automatically suggest that one's theatrical
prowess will therefore be of a sub standard nature.I have seen some excellent Amateur productions, (and some very ordinary
ones) , as I'm sure we all have. However the same may be said of some (so called) professional shows. There are some Amateur actors, singers, musicians, etc who could have made
great names for themselves in professional Theatre, had they chosen that
path. The love of Theatre and the arts draws us together in the form of Community
or Amateur Theatre. Our world is a richer place because of this.Be proud to be an amateur, and always remember that we are playing to a
professional audience. They paid good money to see us perform, and our fulfillment is in giving a
professional performance every time the curtain goes up! Because we are
amateurs. We work for love!http://www.bundabergonthenet./jpriorjprior@interworx.com.auJudith Prior.-
