Amateur Status
Fri, 17 July 1998, 01:41 pmOn the reverse of the licence agreement from Dominie appear the words"...all advertising matter shall be printed in a manner to make clear that the audience will witness a performance by a company of amateurs"Possibly, like me you have not fully realised the meaning of this stern command! (until now)
I wrote to Dominie for clarification and am told that the words" this is an amateur performance" - or wording to that effect MUST appear in ALL advertising which apparantly includes the programme. A letter to this effect is now going out along with the licence agreement. It would seem that 'this rule is not being adhered to'leading to 'some people' being unaware that they are watching an amateur performance!!!!!!!!!
Just a word of warning to all producers of Dominie controlled plays.

Haven't directed or been involved directly with a Dominee play for a while ( Daisy Pulls It Off was the last in 1995 )We are becoming regulated aren't we......I wonder if you are allowed to say " non professional " or "community theatre".My gut feeling is that this could have an adverse effect at the box office.Kimberley

Dominie have not specified how large or small the 'amateur'wording needs to be.Those I have seen appearing recently presumably as a result of the letter which is being sent out with the licence agreements, have been in very small print somewhere not too conspicuous.
