The following letter from ITA President, Jarrod Buttery, address concerns for the future of member company, Stirling Players.

---

Dear Cr. Vallelonga and Council of the City of Stirling ,

I am writing to you in my capacity as President of the Independent Theatre Association of Western Australia (ITA). The ITA represents the interests of over 50 community theatres throughout metropolitan and country WA - each boasting scores of active participants and hundreds of regular patrons. In addition to our hundreds of individual members, every member of an affiliated club becomes a member of the ITA.

It has recently come to our attention that the Stirling City Council is intending to demolish the building which is Stirling Theatre Players current venue. Stirling Theatre Players is an extremely well-regarded group within the Perth theatrical community, and a long-time member of the ITA. Annually, Stirling Theatre Players present five to six full-length productions, patronised by hundreds of satisfied customers. Testament to their professionalism and popularity, their recent production of Showboat, sold out before the season opened!

If Stirling Theatre Players are forced to leave their current location, it will severely hinder their upcoming programme of productions, and deprive the community of a valuable and strongly-patronised venue for the Arts. Not only will the group suffer, but the City of Stirling will temporarily - and perhaps permanently - lose one of its most popular artistic outlets.

Stirling Theatre Players? current venue is ideal for the purpose of live theatre performances, and is looked upon with respect (and even a little envy) as an example of what can be accomplished with limited funds and resources. It would be a disgrace if this comfortable, friendly, theatre-specific venue had to be abandoned and the group had to once again start from scratch in a new location.

The Independent Theatre Association, and our thousands of members, would ask Stirling City Council to reconsider its decision, as we offer our support for Stirling Theatre Players to remain in their current location. If this option is not possible then we ask that the City of Stirling guarantee the future of Stirling Players in an equally suitable location so that the continuity of community theatre in Stirling is not disrupted.

Yours sincerely,

Jarrod Buttery,
President,
Independent Theatre Association of WA Inc..
