The S*M*U*T website....

So what does a naughty word and theatre have in common?
A lot if you think about it *smirk*
Actually - S*M*U*T stands for 'Stage Management - Upstairs Theatre'
S*M*U*T is an organisation set-up by theatre students studying Stage Management at Curtin University's Hayman Theatre. It is from this group of students that Stage Managers are obtained to run the various Hayman Theatre productions and weekly one-act shows performed 'upstairs' in the Phillips Theatre.
The majority of our students can be seen at work stage-managing the upstairs shows - hence the 'Upstairs Theatre' reference in the S*M*U*T title.
S*M*U*T more specifically, is a fund-raising body whose aim is to upgrade and maintain our much neglected Philips Theatre. Through selling S*M*U*T shirts, raffles, social events (like the S*M*U*T Night Out) and the selling of numerous buckets of Chupa Chups at Hayman productions, we have managed to raise over $1000!
The S*M*U*T website is primarily a discussion site for stage managers and directors working on shows. HOWEVER, it is also has a section that promotes up and coming shows at Hayman Theatre's main theatre and the weekly shows performed in the Philips Theatre!
Lets put this in perspective - how many Theatre Companies in Perth are able to put on a new show every week? Not only that...how many Theatre Companies put on a double bill every Sunday showcasing the show finishing that week and the next one starting for only $6? SIX DOLLARS!
Come check out the latest talent as students from our Theatre Arts course put on FREE weekly one-act shows on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays starting at 12:10pm. Or you can a double bill on Sundays and only pay $6!
So please - check out our site and come support our shows - especially our Upstairs shows! An even better idea is to come watch our shows and then post your reviews on this message board!
