Eeighteen community theatre people met yesterday for a discussion on Publicity.
Sarah McNeill started the ball rolling by giving us the do's and dont's from an Arts Editors' viewpoint, basically apply the KISS principle - Keep it Short & Simple. Sarah & Barbara Zahari produced several 'good' and 'bad' press releases (one of the not-so-good being one of mine!) John Flood, ABC Community Theatre reviewer came along too and thought we should organise a follow up to the afternoon.
A lively discussion started over afternoon tea and many valuable ideas were exchanged between participants, Publicity officers met each other and shared experiences.
The next LINK (or possibly the one after) will give a full report on the afternoon.

RE: Puiblicity Forum

Yes I really enjoyed being there for part of the afternoon.
I felt ITA and groups should have more liaison with the professional theatre/schools theatre and would like to see a forum where that could be discussed/promoted/initiated.
Also for any interested parties I am involved in organising a "Dublin" event at Paddy Hannans bar in Burswood Casino on August 27 2000 from 2pm to 5pm.
Would there be anyone from drama/music circles be interested in
1. Dresssing up as a Dublin character eg Molly Malone, Sean O'Casey. even Bono (U2) etc. we possibly could do a short skit (comedy routine) if we have anyone adventurous out there!
2. Would there be any guitar player out there who lives on north side of perth (near Leederville) and would be interested in accompanying at a singalong of Dublin songs on that day.
3. Is there any dublin people who might even do a fun interview on the day?
I think we could get publicity for some groups on that day and then maybe we could organise drama style events there (at Paddy Hanna's) later in the year.

If anyone has an interest in any of the above please send an email.
John
