Pathetic excuses.
Wed, 5 July 2000, 11:51 amAt the risk of upsetting a few people I'm interested in compiling a Top 10 list of PATHETIC excuses that SOME people give for NOT coming to see a show you're in after promising they'll attend:
Allow me to start the ball rolling.
1. ummm....there was a road weather alert...could you excuse me for just one moment!
2. Oh sorry i forgot...sorry...sorry...how was it anyway?(while picking lint off themselves).
Finish it off...
Now folks there are many more wittier excuses out there..make my day and send them to me.
Once i have compiled my Top Ten list i shall be forwarding this list to those people(and you all know who you are) who somehow forgot or got lost!
Of course for all those who did attend A Doll's House at The Dolphin, UWA
a huge thanx.
Jaded
The Gaz Meister.
Allow me to start the ball rolling.

RE: Pathetic excuses.
Hi Garry!
Um...I don't watch amatuer shows, only act in them
If you're in it, how good could it be?
I only like stuff with a car chase.
I've seen Calamity Jane 12 times already this year at 5 different clubs thank you.
Well, they suck, but 'A Doll's House' certainly didn't. Super big congratulations to Grant, Renate, Dean, my old science teacher from High school and youreslf and the others I can't recall the names of sorry!!! But it was a fantastic production.

Pathetic excuses number?
"I didn't want to"
I had too much to drink at dinner beforehand and fell asleep on the sofa
I had a better offer!
I was on call and had to go and save a life
?what play?
I thought you were kidding
I had to catch the midnight plane

"Has it finished already? Gee , why such a short season?"
"It went for three weeks!!"
"Really? Oh Well, when's the next one"
Am I the only person who has had this conversation many times?
P.S. A pox on all your "friends" who missed you Gaz. The loss is all theirs. You were fantastic.

Sorry I missed the show - hey I turned up for the drinks afterwards!! Thanks Dean, Lynne, Lyndsay, Renate, Fiona and Ian!! From all accounts the season was great and I can only say I'm sorry I missed it....have I sucked up enough yet? Forgive me?
Love Kerry-Anne

I count 18 so far. Can we have a poll on this?
No 19: I haven't finished reading the book yet.

RE: Pathetic excuses.
Why bother reading a book (or seeing a live performance)? I'll just wait for the video.
Not especially amusing, but my own favourite: I couldn't afford it.

How about : "I was in a show myself, at the same time!"
Again, not particularly amusing, but it works for me!
(and more often than not, its true!)

RE: Pathetic excuses.
There are excuses that are reserved for directors.
"Oh, but you were ONLY the director. We'll come and see one, when you are in it."
or
"You were the director. Why didn't you send me a free ticket ?"

RE: Pathetic excuses.
Dear Gaz,
The list is pretty extensive now, you should write a book, publish it and sell it to those poeple who skip shows so often they'd need a book full of excuses!! I have mates who could use it.
Hope your feeling better and sorry we missed you at the pub the night I saw the Doll House's curtain call!! Heard the show went off. Well done!

By the time I went to book a ticket, they were all sold out! What a pity!
(hey mate, try booking early for a change!)
Have fun compiling the list, Garry!

Here's another really dumb excuse:
I was caught in traffic for the Olympic Torch Relay.
good luck with the list.
The stage Manager from an unsuccessful Blue Room show.

RE: Pathetic excuses.
Hi Grant
No it was an old Toyota.
We watched it burn for a while because we couldn't back up, and then the Rover's engine overheated so we sat there for awhile. By the time we got going the play had already began.

How about this one to beat them all: "Sorry I'm late, but I couldn't get past this house in the middle of South Street". (It fell off the back of a truck). True!
