Les Miserables
Sat, 24 June 2000, 03:31 pmDoes anyone have details of upcoming amateur/semi-pro productions of Les Miserables?
I'm aware of three (Parramatta, Adelaide, Hobart) but
(a) would like to get more detailed information on these, and
(b) figure if it's going to be like last time the rights were released there'll be a stampede of productions springing up. (Do stampedes spring???)
Thanks.
:-)

Apologies for the double post.
And I'm not sure if there's a "delete message" function...

RE: Les Miserables
Two of very reputable amateur companies in melbourne are planning production of 'Les Mis' for this year. I am fairly sure that one of them is Catchment Players of Darebin, but i can't remember the other one. It could be CLOC or Whitehorse Theatre Company. If you wanted more information you could probably find out from the Victorian Amateur Theatre Guild.

I have done a quick check, Catchment is doing Les Miserables in October, but the auditions finished last week. I still couldn't find out who the other company was. The Music Theatre Guild can be contacted through the theatre links section of this Web Page.

RE: Les Miserables
I've heard that a few companies in the Sydney area are considering performing Les Mis in the near future.
The story that's going around is that over 500 people auditioned for the last local production of the show.
Is this the standard response for a production of Les Miserables? It seems like a fairly record-breaking effort to me.

That's great. Can you say which ones? The last time around there were some pretty impressive productions staged in Sydney.

Well, there over 320 people auditioned for the Catchement Players production in Melbourne and 400 auditioned for the Mayfair Theatre Company's version in Adelaide, so 500 seems to be in a comparable range. :-)
