Hello,
I am a year twelve student of Murwillumbah High from country N.S.W. I am currently researching a sociological project on community and alternative/political theatre, and it's relationship to Australian society.

For my primary research I would like to carry out a number of interviews with theatre practioners. If anyone is willing to take part could they post their replies within the next few weeks, as I need the first draft written up by the middle of May. Responses will be include in the appendices of my report. Thank you.

General Questions

Name:

Involvement in theatre industry:

What originally attracted you to the theatre?

How do you feel theatre affects people in comparison to film?

Does this give theatre practioners a greater or lesser opportunity to effect social change?

Does the theatre industry have a responsibility towards its audience? If so, what is it?

Do theatre audiences have a similar responsibility towards the theatre? If so, what is it?

Is fringe/alternative theatre nessecarily confrontational?

What role does alternative theatre play in Australian society?

Community Theatre Questions

What benifits have you recieved from being involved with Community theatre? (personal experience etc)

Does express the nature of the community it is involved with? Does it aim to?

What benifits does community theatre have for the community?

How is community theatre created/started?

Has community theatre changed mainstream/professional theatre?

When did community theatre start in Australia?

Did this fulfil a need within Australian society? If so, what was this?

What do you think creates the need that community theatre fills?

Does community theatre add to the sense of community and belonging within a community?

Is this aided by the fact the theatre is a shared experience?

Further comments?

Thank you for participating in my interview/survey.

I understand that my lack of previous knowledge and experience may mean that I am not taking a relavant stance within my questioning. If you feel that, please mention this in your reply, and if possible, could you suggest other questions, or improvements to the ones already asked.

If you could put me in contact with anyone else in order to carry out an interview, i would greatly appreciate it.

Yours Sincerly,

Gemma Collett
