I find it interesting, that time after time, when audition notices are posted, that they fail to mention cast requirements. Surely it would be more practical to list the age and sex of the cast required, there and then, than to have those that are interesed, ringing the director, only to find that there is no part in the play for an 80 year old actor, or to be asked by the director "Are you a 20 year old female, with red hair"

RE: Auditions & more

I agree with you point there on auditions and would also like to suggest that notices whether for auditions or shows or anything else are removed after the dates in question have passed. There is nothing more anoying than reading a notice and thinking that looks great only to then notices your 2 weeks too late.

PS if this is some sort of tech. issue that people who have posted cannot control I apologise for my ignorance.

So do i. Most of the audition and what's on information is drawn from the ITA newsletter or other newspaper sources. Unfortunately there is usually no other information provided in either of these sources.

Where you do find extra details listed here for auditions and performances, it's because someone involved with that show or company has taken the time to visit the website and provide the information themselves.

If you'd like to see more details provided in these areas, i can only suggest that you spread the word. Ask your local theatre company why their details aren't up to date. If they complain that they don't have web access, perhaps you could offer to do a bit of updating for them!

I understand your frustration, Phil. This is a tech issue and it's all my fault - nothing to do with people contributing information.

I have got some reasons for choosing to display the information as it appears but i'm very ready to be shouted down and told to do it differently, so i'll value your continuing feedback (and that of anyone else with an opinion on the matter).

Firstly, news items. Every news item actually has a hidden use-by date. When that date passes, the news item is automatically dropped from the front page. It's the only "editorial" section of the site - news items can only be contributed by ITA committee.

Secondly, the audition page lists all auditions in the current calendar month and in any coming months. So in a little over 24 hours, when we tick over to April, all those March auditions will automatically disappear.

My rationale (let me know if this is lame) has been that people might have missed an audition, but frequently directors don't cast their shows immediately and may appreciate a call from someone who missed the audition - see Brenda's recent post!

I've also listed the coming months' auditions so that people are conscious of what auditions may be coming up and can plan what they'd like to audition for.

I hope the weekly shows' listing is self explanatory, but if anyone has a suggestion or an issue with it, do let me know.

Finally, the monthly listing shows all productions with a performance occuring in the current (or specified) month.

I'm listing everything that is on that month because often people will have an idea that something is/was on and come here looking for the details. If they come to the site and the show doesn't appear in the list, they may just assume that it was never listed and keep hunting for the details elsewhere. If however, we list the show with the dates, then they can confirm for themselves that they actually missed the show.

The audition listing might be assisted by appearing in some sort of chronological order - i'm not sure that this helps for the monthly shows' listings.

The monthly listings are tending to get very long as more people start including information (and even pictures) about their productions. Perhaps a briefer listing - like in the weekly list - with a link to access full information would be better?

What do you think?

Thanks for the feedback!

Cheers
Grant

Does anyone actually ring up though, after the event, just to see if something wasnt cast? Sure you might do it if youre buddies with the director, but I dont know if Id call up two weeks late looking all disorganised to ask if all the parts are filled???

Kimberleys Dad, you and my mum have something in common, her online nick is JaysMum :o)

RE: Auditions & more

I'm with you Miss Jay I'd feel pretty silly calling up late too, mabey it would just be best if directors repost if they didn't get a full cast at the first audition.
