some weeks ago there was a conference on the GST and theatre...i was unable to attend...can someone fill me in on how we are to treat this??...

As far as is known, yes you don't have to register unless your annual turnover is in excess of $100.000.
BUT you will still have to pay GST on all goods and services so it's heads you lose, tails you don't win.
I sent for the booklet from the ATO entitled "Charitable, Religious & Non-Profit Organisations" and after having read it several times am no better informed - in fact I'm more confused than ever.
There should have been an article in January LINK about GST and 'US' but David Young was unable to finish it in time, we hope it will appear in the next issue
One thing is clear- ticket prices will have to rise,
The ATO has a website www.taxreform.ato.gov.au which personally I have not found very useful for community groups like us, but you may be more clued up, if so let me know what it all means please!!
