A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR THE ARTS.
It was announced on ABC Radio today that Peter Foss has been removed from the Arts Portfolio.
He retains Justice and Attorney General. It should not be lost on you that his retention of 2 portfolios means that the Arts was "taken" from him. Despite rumours that he may have resigned from Arts.
This is a significant win for all members of the Union. Something to be seriously proud of. Our campaign to focus the community's and the Premier's attention on to Mr Foss's disastorus leadership of the port folio has been mightily successful.
TIME TO REBUILD
The incoming Minister for the Arts is Mr Mike Board. Mr Board originally held Youth, Works and Services and Multicultural interests. He has been moved up to employment and trade as well as the Arts
We now need to begin to rebuild our industry. 2000 will be about rebuilding. All of us need to keep involved in that process. The Foss demotion is but the first step. A big step admittedly but only the first.
January will see the Alliance getting "stuck in". We will need your support and importantly, your ideas. Don't stop now!
The Foss reshuffle clearly highlights the effect a community loudly voicing its concerns about Government to Government can have.
To all of you who wrote letters, spoke on Radio, badgered local MP's, my deepest thanks. Your efforts have been well rewarded.
Thank you also to our Amateur brothers and sisters who recognised the need for a balanced and progressive Performing Arts community. Thanks for fighting alongside us with strength and solidarity to ensure that your members have an industry worth aspiring to. I'm sure Effie Crump will be eternally grateful for your efforts.
Finally, Merry Christmas to one and all. I hope you have a safe and exciting New Year. See you all next century !!
Kind Regards
Steve Shaw
