Hi All
Do you want professional companies and shows listed in the database?
I know that i would personally find it very useful to have them all listed in the one place.
At present no-one in Perth - as near as i can tell - is providing a comprehensive on-line listing of what is happening in both the professional and amateur theatres. If the ITA site were to provide it, we could all benefit from people visiting to see what is happening.
It would not be my intention to distinguish in anyway between professional and amateur listings. If people can't tell from the ticket price, venue or name of the company, then they probably won't recognise the difference in product either.
Cheers

RE: Going Pro?

Why not - If no one else has bothered - go for it and they might be prepared to pay for adds (I doubt very much) but I think it would help all anyway.

RE: Going National?

I understand the ITA committee may take time to consider notion of listing pro shows here on the website at their meeting tonight. They've got a lot on their plates at the moment though.
Perhaps i might heap something else onto that plate while i'm at it? Many of you might have noticed that the companies and events databases provide for separation via state.
At present the focus of this site is largely western australian. However, the site is structured so that it could readily support information specific to any particular state of Australia... You could choose to see the what's on this week listings relevant only for your state. This setting would be remembered and displayed on subsequent visits. Ditto that for the what's on this month listings. Separate message boards could be set up for state-specific discussion and information.
Is there any point in thinking about going national?

RE: Going National?

Go National? Any Point?
YES!
I have already seen one or two postings from people from both Overseas and Interstate that have discovered our Web Site and have asked for advice on both Professional and Eastern States Theatres. At present, we cover neither of these areas.
With the New URL Name (i.e. theatre.asn.au) when people go searching for Australian Theatrical Web Sites, the ITA site will be one of the first ones listed. This means that we will have a larger number of visitors looking towards us for information on a National and Professional Basis.
I say, let's give them what they want. It also makes us feel more important I'm sure ;-)

You have my vote!

I think it would be a great idea and we may see some professional auditions being posted here as well :) Not to mention the increased exsposure would benefit everybody.

Gone Pro!

On Monday evening the ITA committee agreed that there would be benefits to the entire theatrical community of Perth in listing both professional and amateur shows in the what's on section of this website. A little bit of co-operation might build audiences for all concerned. So watch out for it happening very soon!
The committee also lent support to the push to develop stronger national links for the ITA website. I don't believe it's inaccurate to suggest that earlier efforts by the Association of Community Theatre in NSW to form some national representation have languished for more than a year.
If the ITA site were to offer a forum for discussion of national theatre issues, what would you wish to see addressed? Formation of a national representative body? A national drama competition? Representations to government agencies for increased support for community theatre? A national conference/expo circulating from state to state?
Or is this all just too much political newspeak?
Cheers
