Wed, 24 Mar 1999, 08:54 pmIn this latest update from the theatrical agency DAVID SPICER Productions.http://welcome.to/davidspicer* Six Month Australian tour of magnificent new musical Wuthering Heights.* New Zealand and Queensland premieres of Pride and Prejudice the Musical.* World Amateur Premiere of Along the Road to Gundagai* World Premiere of The Merry Widow From Bluegum Creek.* Snugglepot and Cuddlepie in Concert in Newcastle.* World School Premiere of Wild the Rainforest Musical.* Emma Celebrazione in Bundaberg QLD and Bunbury WA.* Lola Montez and Monica Lewinsky...a comparison.* Showline 1999.WUTHERING HEIGHTS.Sensational new composer Bernard J Taylor arrived in Sydney today toprepare for a six month tour of his Musical Wuthering Heights.The musical already on the professional stages of Holland, Germany, Hungaryand Romania will tour regional centres of New South Wales and Queenslandfrom Wollongong to Cairns starting from May 17.It's an "off Broadway tour" to further develop the musical, and attractproducers interested in staging the production in capital cities andultimately the West End.The Newcastle based Odessey Productions under the Direction of Don McEwenis taking Wuthering Heights to Wollongong,Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour,Grafton, Lismore, Tweed Heads, Caloundra, Bundeburg, Gladstone, MacKay,Ayr, Charters Towers, Townsville, Cairns, Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Armidaleand Tamworth!Don McEwen directed Wuthering Heights for 37 productions under theNewcastle Theatre Company in Newcastle and Taree in January and last year."Bernard writes sensation songs for the stage and we're going to developthis into a top flight musical," said Don.Don and myself have asked Bernard to write some new songs, including somenew lyrical numbers for the brooding Heathcliffe.When it was staged in Newcastle last year the Newcastle Herald wrote that" millions of people will probably see this show and weep "I will announce tour dates and booking numbers shortly.********************************************************************PRIDE AND PREJUDICE THE MUSICAL.I have two more bookings for Bernard J Taylor's musical Pride andPrejudice. Last year there were three productions in Sydney and Melbourne,now the word is spreading about this musical which has beautiful music,lots of great roles for women and is very very very funny.The Maureen Potter Prosemium Theatre will stage Pride and Prejudice theMusical in TAUPO New Zealand in May 2000. Maureen is now actively lobbyingother theatres to join a consortium to share in the costs of sets andprops. Already two other theatre are keen to jump on board."I saw the production in Sydney, by Barker College, and was reallyimpressed," said Maureen.Meanwhile the citizens of Rockhampton will enjoy two of Bernard's musicalsin 1999.The Rockhamptom Municipal Union Choir will stage a production of pride andPrejudice the Musical in October.The Choir President Pat McKenna .... said " we're really excited about thisproduction".***************************************************************Along the Road to Gundagai: The Jack O'Hagan Story.In December 1997 Sydney's Marian Street Theatre staged the new musical byMelvyn Morrow and David Mitchell, based on the songs of Jack O'Hagan, thecomposer of Aussie classics Our Don Bradman, When a boy from Alabama Meetsa Girl from Gundagai, Ginger Meggs and naturally Along the Road to Gundagai.When I looked at the vast map of Australia and decided to target a fewtheatres with this Aussie gem described by the Sydney Morning Herald as " aclass act... a high cholesterol piece of Australian entertainment" one oftowns I zeroed in on was Tumut ...because Tumut is 10 kilometres Along theRoad from Gundagai.The Tumut Performing Arts Society will now stage the musical in Septemberto coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Snowy River Scheme.***********************************************************************The Merry Widow From Bluegum Creek. Music By Franz Lehar, new lyrics byFrank Hatherley.I am poised to announce which theatre has won the rights to stage the worldpremiere of the Merry Widow From Bluegum Creek. Theatre's in regional NewSouth Wales and Western Australia are vying for the right to stage this newoperetta in 1999.Now that Herr Lehar has been dead for 50 years, Frank Hatherley hasbreathed new life into the most popular operetta of the 20th century.The Pontevedrinian Embassy in Paris in 1901, has become the Australianembassy in Paris in 1901.The first of the new Federation of Australia.We're not touching the soaring, sexy music but just updating the librettoto make this a very very funny piece of theatre, some of the new lyrics areon my web page.A new orchestration has been commissioned from Stephen Gray Assistant MD ofLes Miserable. The cantata is based on the writings of May Gibbs and hasbeen seen already by more than 50,000 Australians.****************************************************************Emma Celebrazione.Two theatres have already booked Graham Pitts sensational play EmmaCelebrazione in 1999.
