Promoting Shows
Thu, 25 Feb 1999, 06:11 amDear Grant,I wish I knew what we could do to get more groups to send in material totheir Theatrical Magazines. The problem is not confined to WA.It amused me to read the "Statistics " on Amateur theatre printed in theVictorian Drama Leagues magazine "Theatrecraft."I quote..."The most popular writer for 1998 was Alan Ayckbourne, who is backup there on top of the ladder with five productions to his name." unquote.( I had fourteen productions in Victoria for 1998.)I quote..." The Australian percentage is holding at 12% with 14 showsproduced." unquote.(Does my fourteen shows double this percentage?)I have at present Fourteen companies already in rehearsal with my plays for1999. So far I have not seen one audition notice or advert for any of theseshows. It's all very discouraging when I know that my plays are doing so well. Imean the cheques in the mail are very handy, but a little bit of recognitionin one's chosed field would be nice, don't you think? If the Amateur groups don't send the information in the the editors, theynot only don't promote the writers, they also deny themselves theopportunity to see what the other clubs are having successes with.If you can think of anything I can do to help overcome this problem pleaselet me know.Regards,Judith Prior.
